fearcutsdeeperthanswords: (a girl gonna get hers)
Arya Stark ([personal profile] fearcutsdeeperthanswords) wrote2012-10-31 11:34 am

A girl remembers she was here before. She remembers people called her Cat, and knew she sold cockles and clams in Braavos. But that girl is gone. She belongs on canals in the Ragman's Harbor, not here.

A girl doesn't belong here either. She wants to leave. She won't answer to Cat any longer.

[She doesn't mention Arya Stark; why talk about some dead girl?]

Her warden calls her Jeyne now. Jesse calls her Shadowcat. But she has no true name, and she never will.

Even when she's older.

[And that, ladies and gents, is how Arya deals with having been an adult for a few days. Apparently.]

[Private to Jesse]

A girl will punch you again.

[ It's the supervillain life style, man. ]

[ Megamind looks at her from where he sits, quiet and a bit sad. No, he supposes it isn't for her. She's not like him and his world isn't like this. It's a sobering thought-- that she might encounter truly bad people, and that before she's in the double digits, seen a whole decade on the earth, she kills them. ]

[ It hurts. He doesn't really know how to explain why it does-- that's more self-reflection than Megamind wants to endure-- but in the end, he just nods quietly. ]

No, I suppose it's not.

Promise still stands, though. Hurt only if you must. If you can find away to escape, take it. Don't go looking for fights. Stay safe. Live to grow up. The last of one's kind shouldn't die before one's even managed to kiss a boy or-- any of that humans stuff that you do, do you understand?

He Of...okay, I'm guessing you're getting religious on me me there. [ Welp, he's-- never really gotten that. He's got his own private fantasy - that people go to evil heaven or good heaven and so on - but nothing that structured. ]

Good. That's a good start. The man's pretty resigned to it, but-- you know, it's not so bad. I had thirty years more than the rest of my world did, right?

Everything dies. Even stars. You know the sun, right? Your world has one, I wager. I mean, every planet has one. It gives that plnet energy and life and heat and a place to be. Well, when one of those dies-- it takes everything it supported out with it...

[ He's already reaching for one of his many pads of paper and pencils, drawing the star system of his old home. ]

The sun at the center holds everything in it's place. When it collapses, it rips a wound in space- [ and he scribbles out the sun, making it a black, ugly dot. ] So planets, like these, fall into it.

There's-- no coming out of that though. They're ripped asunder by forces magnitudes beyond human comprehension. Beyond even my comprehension.

But you can escape, if you're lucky. My parents sent me away, in a little ship that took me far from that planet as it was dying, to another world, with lots of people like you! [ And now a nice little doodle of the Solar system. ] and that's where I grew and lived.

Not... quite! They sent Minion with me, so he would take care of me. And he did for a while. A long time, really. Long enough for anybody to get tired of it, I guess.

[ He left, and Megamind's heart hurts a little more for entirely different reasons. But he shrugs, flippantly clinging to the shallow end of emotional depth, trying to ignore the undertow that threatened to pull him into deeper waters. ]

But everybody is alone eventually, right?

[ Well, they're just bundles of abandonment issues, aren't they. ]

Yes, I suppose they do.

But we're now in the same boat-- literally.

[ They need a support group. Maybe group crafts... that don't involve weaponry. ]

Yeah, basically.

[ Still a flippant jerk, too. ]

Anyway. You get me something harder, I'll make you a better one. Metal, wood, plastic. Metal is best, and will take time to shape, but I can do it.

Deal. [ He unfolds himself frmo his seat, and gets up off the floor, stretching out. It's then that he remembers Nymeria-- who has been so quiet and good that Megamind .... sort of forgot about her in the whole drawing and shivving and all that. ]

Does the wolf have a name?

[ Please don't let it be 'face eater mcgee' or something. ]

That's pretty. Like a Queen, or a-- warrior-princess or something. [ Megamind has an ear for the dramatic. ]

[ He smiles, and steps carefully around them both to see the door open for them. ]

You'll have to tell me about her, later! Especially if she was smart and clever. [ Because if seh was a brute, she'll be boring. But women can't often be successful and simply be brutes. They have to be cunning, crafty... ]

[ Megamind seems pleased; he's pretty sure it'll be a tale of stirring heroism or something, but he likes those stories well enough. After all, a good villain is what makes those stories awesome, isn't it? ]

Alright. Stay safe.
